So Long Thyroid

Yesterday I had my Thyroid removed. Turns out pregnancy sent my body into orbit and just after Claire was born I discovered that I had a growth on my neck. At my last ultrasound it was 3.5 inches across. Now if you think about it 3.5 inches of not-necessary material jammed into your neck starts cramming out necessary items like your arteries. So it's gone now. Just like that and I am convalescing in bed while my mom folds laundry.

The scar unveiling is next Tuesday though I will peak your interest by telling you that doctor said it was bigger than even he expected and surgery took twice as long as he was planning. Nice

  1. Best wishes for a speedy recovery! If it helps when the scar is unveiled, my mom had her thyroid removed in 1969 and her scar goes around half her neck She looks like someone tried to decapitate her! But over the years the scar has softened and faded so no one really notices.

  2. Did you name it and tell everyone it was your twin? ;)

I hope you recover quickly, that sounds painful!

(p.s. I have two friends with huge neck scars and no one even notices after the first time)

  3. Yowsa! I was just thinking the other day, "My, I sure am missing Sallee and Sallee's awesome blog updates." :) This is the reason for the MIA! I am glad you are recovering! When my youngest sister was 16 she had to have her thyroid removed, too, and she didn't want to put any stuff on it that would make the scar fade--she wanted that thing to show up/be around for the rest of her life. Good luck on the healing. And, please tell your mom she can come fold my laundry, too. ;)

  5. Oh Sallee, sorry to hear that. It's for the best I'm sure, but probably so painful. I hope the recovery goes well.
