Something I should have thought of before this morning

My turkey is soaking in brine as we speak.  Something to think about.  If you volunteer to cook the turkey for your Friendsgiving at one point you are going to have to stick your hand inside an animal corpse and pull out its neck.  Dry heaving might ensue.

The recipe I am using (which is from Our Best Bites and you can find here) says that tomorrow I have to separate the skin from the body so as to be able to slather the thing with butter.

Not. Going. To. Happen.

I have no objection to the butter but there is no way I am going to rip the skin off and jam my hand up there. Maybe I can talk the hubbs into doing it.

  1. I tried all this for the first time with a whole chicken last month, and I pretty much wanted to throw up.

  2. Oh girls....you didn't have to kill the turkey first by chopping off its head. That would make me sick too, but I would do it if I had to and you would too. Tomorrow morning I'm planning on separating the skin...it's not that hard and putting butter between it and the uncooked meat. I've been thinking of mixing some thyme and rosemary with the butter...yes, it's going to happen. Wear a glove if you think it would help.

  3. A few years ago, a friend asked me if she could use my oven for their extra turkey (we were eating the big dinner at their house). Of course she can! Then she dropped it off and began telling me what to do before putting it in the oven.

*sound of needle screeching over vinyl record*

You want me to put what, where? Um, I think you must think I'm someone else. My oven is right there though, have at it.

She laughed at me and thought I was kidding. Oh no, I was not going to even touch raw turkey skin, let alone grope around underneath it. Poor friend, she probably would have liked to know that ahead of time.

So would I have, friend, so would I.
